Liverpool FC will bid farewell to Ibrahima Konaté at the end of June 2026, marking the conclusion of his five-year tenure at Anfield. The French central defender, who arrived from RB Leipzig in 2021, leaves behind a legacy of 183 appearances and seven goals. During his time on Merseyside, Konaté helped the Reds secure a Premier League title, an FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and the Community Shield.
His departure was officially confirmed by the club after contract extension negotiations ultimately collapsed. Despite months of discussions, the two sides could not come to terms on a new deal.
Konate’s farewell message to Liverpool fans at Anfield
In a heartfelt goodbye to the Anfield faithful, Konaté expressed deep gratitude for his time at the club:
“Dear Liverpool. Five years ago, I arrived as a young player with big dreams. Today, I leave with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Representing this club has been an honour. We have shared incredible moments together with highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heartbreaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo. Losing my father this year was one of the hardest periods of my life, but even through hardship, my commitment to this club never changed. During the toughest moments, I gave everything I had for this badge. To my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for helping me grow every single day.”
Konaté’s exit, alongside other major high-profile departures this summer, leaves Liverpool facing a significant defensive void ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
