Lamine Yamal breaks another La Liga record at 18

Lamine Yamal has achieved the unthinkable, dismantling an 18-year-old La Liga record previously held by another Barcelona icon. In a display of pure talent, the young winger has officially rewritten the history books.

The Spotify Camp Nou bore witness to a historic passing of the torch as Yamal became the youngest player in FC Barcelona history to net a La Liga hat-trick. During a dominant 4-1 rout of Villarreal, the 18-year-old sensation surpassed a milestone that had remained untouched since 2008, when it was established by Mexican international Giovani dos Santos.

Aged just 18 years and 230 days, Yamal secured his treble significantly earlier than Dos Santos, who was 19 years and 6 days old during his 2008 hat-trick against Real Murcia. While Yamal is frequently compared to Lionel Messi, this specific achievement officially places him ahead of both Messi and Dos Santos as the most clinical teenager to ever represent the Blaugrana in a single league fixture.

What record did Lamine Yamal break at 18-years old?

Yamal’s record-breaking performance highlighted his incredible versatility. He opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a poacher’s finish, followed by a 37th-minute moment of individual brilliance where he danced past two defenders to curl a signature strike into the top corner. He eventually claimed the match ball in the 69th minute, coolly converting a 1v1 opportunity orchestrated by a precise through-ball from Pedri.

Hansi Flick, celebrating his 100th match as manager, labeled Yamal “unstoppable,” praising a level of maturity and decision-making rarely found in players under 20. Beyond the individual glory, the hat-trick was a tactical triumph, maintaining Barcelona’s four-point lead over Real Madrid in a high-stakes title race.

For the Barcelona faithful, the evening felt like a definitive turning point. While Giovani dos Santos’ record long served as a reminder of “what might have been,” Lamine Yamal’s breakthrough feels like the foundation of a dominant new era for the club.
